I'm not exactly sure. Half-breed is a derogatory term, and I assume that it was used by the pro-Grant faction to make fun of the people who were moderate Republicans (opposed political patronage). Nishkid64 (talk) 17:30, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
